COCORA VALLEY & SALENTO

This is one of the most visited destinations by International tourists in all of Colombia. 

 

First, we will visit Cocora Valley, which is a beautiful place host to the world’s tallest palm trees, the wax palm (up to 70m tall or 200ft). This is the only place in the world where you can see these trees, which are approximately 200 years old and are in danger of extinction. You can choose to walk  or to horsebakride on the Cloud Forest for the time you want. Or, for intermediate level hikers, there is a 4-5 hour hike around the mountain, which takes you to about 2400m in altitude and back down again. 
 

Afterwards, we will have time to eat lunch in one of the best restaurants of the Valley. Here, you can choose from a big selection of Colombian dishes including the specialty of the town which  is rainbow trout. 

 
Later we will continue to the town of Salento. Here, you can walk through the famous artisan shopping bazaar which hosts uniquely amazing local art. You can also try playing our national game: Tejo, which 
is a traditional throwing sport in Colombia where gunpowder, explosions and beers are involved.

From Pereira we will cross the modern roads that connects with the town of Santa Rosa de Cabal. During the trip you will be able to appreciate the majestic mountains that form Andes central and western ranges, adorned with extensive coffee and banana crops.

 

We will arrive to Santa Rosa, which is famous for their delicious sausages. We will take you for a stroll around the main square, where you can appreciate the church, the statue of Simón Bolivar and the giant trees that surround the park.

 

We will visit one of the nicest cafes in the town with a cool vintage atmosphere and most exquisite food, where you can try their local produced coffee from our courtesy.

After, we will take you to the natural hot springs high up in the mountains. Here you will bathe in various natural hot spring water pools, as well as witness stunning waterfalls, beautiful views of landscapes, and go on scenic ways as well, one of which takes you to one of the sources of the sulfur heated springs.

SNOW CAPPED MOUNTAIN

Snow Capped Mountains – This tour starts at 5am sharp, we will take you to an extremely remote part of the country. You will get the chance to visit the peak of one of Colombia’s tallest mountains, which is part of the central Andes mountain range.

We will literally take you from warm tropical climate 25degree+ to sub-zero temperatures where you will see snow. You will witness the change of ecosystems while we drive there, going from Andean Forest to Paramo and finish walking to the Glaciar.

The hike is 7kms back and forth, starting at 4,100 m.a.s.l. climbing to glacial edge at 4,700 m.a.s.l. with panoramic views of the Nevado del Ruiz (if the clouds allow us) and beautiful ecosystems of the Parque Nacional Natural los Nevados PNNN.

Recommendations:

The night before have a good sleep, do not drink alcohol and eat foods with a high caloric content. Use comfortable clothing for cold weather, sports or hiking shoes, sun block and sun glasses. Bring water, chocolate, peanuts, energy bars, etc.

ORQUIDS AND FLAVORS

We will visit a lovely orchid farm which is located in the Natural Park Barbas Bremen. Colombia is the #1 country in the world for diversity of orchids, so you will get to see how they are cultivated, and all different types as well.

After, we will drive close to the starting point of our walk towards the Barbas River. The walk to the river is approximately 40 minutes, where you can appreciate the habitat of howler monkeys, Andean Cock of the Rock and endangered species such as the Cauca Guan. When we arrive to the river we will have ”fiambre” for lunch which is a typical dish that is traditionally prepared for river walks and is wrapped in plantain leaves. We can stay here for some time to enjoy the crystalline waters of the Barbas Bremen, get energized to start our way back to the top.

Just 30 minutes away from Pereira, you can discover the biological corridor of Barbas Bremen, a paradise of biodiversity here in the coffee region of Colombia.

You will be welcome with a traditional drink of the region while you admire the breathtaking view of the Barbas River Canyon and listen to some recommendations before descending to the river.  

The walk to the river is approximately 40 minutes, where you can appreciate the habitat of the howler monkeys, Andean Cock of the Rock and endangered species such as the Cauca Guan. We can stay here for some time to enjoy the crystalline waters of the Barbas River and get energized to start our way back to the top.

After we get a good rest, we can enjoy a traditional Colombian dish called «fiambre» which is a typical stew wrapped in plantains leaves.
